The younger you are the better because your mouth will heal quicker. They do hurt a little to start with so make sure you have pain releif with you. Mine stung but that was all, eating was difficult for a while. It took about a week to settle down and after a fortnight i barely new i had them on. There arent really any do's or dont's i would suggest, just whatever gets you through the first few days. Whitening toothpaste stings your sore gums, i do remember that. Make sure you have those little brushes for cleaning in between your teeth too and have one with you all the time, its embarrassing when food gets stuck and you cant move it. Brush your teeth after sugary snacks, you dont want to end up with marks. Finally just persevere, its worth it! Oh and i like pink!!!!!!!!! V girlie and jolly!Braces....help??? advice?
u should get blue it looks awsum on braces and it only hurts for the first 3 or 4 days, so u should be able to talk, but dont get in the mouth ur tooth could fall ouyt since ur teeth are shifting and roots are loose. so avoid the mouth. but yeah have a great 2 weeks.

good luck

Hey I just put on my braces at the start of this year and was very worried too but they never really hurt at all, except the first day and sometimes after tightening the braces. I don't think pain is much of a problem for me, but there's one thing that I feel is a problem and most of my other friends with braces on experience it too: a lot of saliva comes out when you talk!

Don't eat hard things like apples on the first few days, don't let anyone knock into your mouth [ouch] and do smile to show off your new braces! :D That is, if you think braces aren't ugly.

Good luck with your braces!
heyy grr i have the same problem...good luck im gettin mine on on...monday too.
well i have braces too but first it hurt a lot i cant eat solid foods such as carrots or anything hard. i only eat soup for a week aside from pain there's a chance you might be developing a stomatitis because the bracket kept rubbing in your inner cheeks and the hook also of the braces. you feel only uncomfortable for the first 3 weeks and then you will felt it like you have no braces after all. but its worth the pain because you will have a great smile! if you can't stand the pain talk to your dentist. good luck!
You have a cheery attitude about getting them so get a color to match your personality.

Take a tooth brush that has soft bristles so you can use it to massage your gums. Stimulating them in a circular motion will keep blood circulating to the gums and reduce the swelling and soreness greatly.

Cut everything into pieces, if you can stand to chew you will work the soreness out quicker, but the brush is the best to get rid of soreness within a day or so.

Listen to the pamphlets and the ortho on what to eat and what not to eat to protect the braces, gums and your teeth and the brackets.
I have braces to correct my buck teeth with an overbite and at first I had problems to talk. I couldn't say M, P, or B normally, it sounded like F or V all the time. Now, after 3 months, my teeth look better and I'm smiling a lot more too. I'm proud to show my braces and my moving teeth
