You probably feel like because you breastfeed its hard for the baby to not want to be around you enough to sleep becuase of that closeness right?? Well I had the same problem at first, then the doctor suggested I swaddle my daughter. Shes been sleeping in her crib, in her room all night since she was 1 month. Shes 4 months now. Swaddling makes the baby feel as if he or she is still in the womb. The closeness helps them feel secure enough to fall asleep without you there right beside them. Hope this helps. :)Any advice or tricks on how to help a breastfeed infant sleep by itself?
i could not get my daughter to sleep in her bassinet until my husband suggested a great idea. do swaddle her but not in a blanket. get one of your big t shirts that smells like you. sounds weird but my little girl snoozes all by herself everynight.
I never co-slept with my daughter, but if you have a crib for your baby, start small by putting the baby in there for naps during the day and then gradually work up to them sleeping in their own bed all the time.
We have a Fisher-Price Aquarium mobile that we turn on when we put our baby down for the night and that helps too. I don't know how old your baby is, but the sooner you start, the better. It's good to get them on a routine of sleeping and wake times.
I don't know if you would be comfortable with a cry it out method, but that certainly works for some people. You put the baby down in their bed, turn on the mobile, kiss them goodnight and leave the room. If the baby starts crying, go in and comfort, but do not pick them up. If the baby is still crying after that, wait 5 more minutes before you go back in to comfort. Keep repeating the process. It can take a long time before it works, but it DOES eventually work. If you're not comfortable with that, just try to find something that does work for you.
Just because your baby is breastfed, doesn't mean they can't sleep in their own bed. My daughter is breastfed too and she does just fine sleeping by herself.
Good luck!
Putting a mobile on her crib or if she sleeps with you hold it over her while she's laying down until she goes to sleep. Or just try giving her warm milk out of one of those bottles with the nipples it's like a bra. For women that can't breastfeed. Or try rocking her while you hold the mobile. Or clip it on the rocking chair. Anything like that will do. Good luck. Feel free to e-mail me!
